At the beginning of 2017, AISAPRESS reporting partners have sent me New Year\u2019s reports one after another.  We exchanged congratulatory messages on the New Year: \u201cBest of luck in the coming year.\u201d  However, they seemed to be feeling down.<\/p>\n

Although people were given New Year\u2019s Day off, farmers have been mobilized for \u201cstruggle to collect compost\u201d since as early as the third of January.  Also, people have started to study the Kim Jong-un\u2019s \u201cNew Year Address for 2017\u201d, the annual New Year\u2019s speech.  For North Koreans, New Year\u2019s Day is the beginning of a gloomy year.<\/p>\n

The New Year address contains a review of the previous year as well as visions of the coming year.  However, they are not very meaningful.  The address usually mentions \u201ccreating a new history of great prosperity\u201d\u2013 self-praise, and presents a list of all the \u201cgreedy\u201d goals as well.  The overall contents of this year's New Year address are as follows:<\/p>\n
