The research sites are the Ryanggang and North Hamkyung Province. The RMB soared more than 10% compared to the previous week. This seems to be the reason why trading companies are busy buying RMB due to the shortage of foreign currency. The price of white rice has also increased. It is unclear whether this is caused by a distribution issue or if there was a decrease in inventory in the first place.

The survey sites are the Ryanggang and North Hamkyung Province. In one month, prices for white rice rose by 15% and prices for corn rose by 60%. Since the amount to be sold at state-run food stores is fixed, residents have to buy what they are short of non-regularly. However the prices are rising because the authorities are strictly controlling the export of grain from rural areas. Demand for cheap corn is high.

The survey sites are the Ryanggang and North Hamkyung Province. Food prices has began to rise. Researchers say this is because the outflow of food from rural areas continues to be strictly controlled, leading to shortages. Meanwhile, in early December, state-run food stores sold 4 kilograms of white rice for 4,700 won and 3 kilograms of corn for 2,100 won (prices are per kilogram). People have to make up their shortfall by buying from suppliers, but the prices are rising.

However, it is said that there were many companies which couldn’t ensure food rations and payed cash instead. A company in Ryanggang Province paid 15,000w in cash to its employees. Ironically, that was several times the default salary.

The research was conducted in North Hamkyung Province and Ryanggang Province. The average value was almost the same. However, both the Chinese yuan and the U.S. dollar plummeted about 22% from last week. The reason for this is unclear, but the reporting partner said that "I am disappointed in foreign currencies." As for the drop in food prices, the reporting partner explained, "Food prices are high in North Hamkyung Province and Ryanggang Province, and traders are bringing in more food from other areas. Fuel oil prices were significantly lower. "I think it is due to a decrease in demand for vehicles," said the researcher. The number of vehicles that cannot be repaired is increasing due to the depletion of parts and movement control.

There is no stock at the state-run Grain Marketing Center, so residents have to buy food at the market, and the price has not dropped. "Fewer people can eat three meals a day," said a researcher. Although fuel prices have fallen in won terms, they are still expensive in foreign currency terms.

The authorities are working feverishly to control prices, but food prices have been rising and falling rapidly and are not stable. Most of the white rice being sold is said to be Chinese rice. For this reason, the labeling of "North Korean rice" has been suspended. It is said that flour from Russia is now being sold in the market.

The research was conducted in North Hamkyung Province, where foodstuffs entered the market on the 28th, and prices fell sharply. Hyesan City's food price was excluded from the statistics because the food delivery was delayed, and the price remained high as it was last week. It appears that food is in short supply across the country, and regional differences are becoming more apparent. Meanwhile, the Chinese yuan and the US dollar continue to weaken. In addition, the price of gasoline and diesel oil has risen, which has raised transportation costs. The Musan mine received a 5 kg ration of corn.

The research was conducted in Ryanggang Province. The North Korean won has soared 12% against the dollar and 31% against the Chinese yuan. In terms of Chinese Yuan, the price of white rice is 6.7 Yuan and corn is 3.5 Yuan, which is fairly high. It is unclear at this point whether this sudden change is a regional factor or a temporary one. Since the Chinese yuan is the actual reserve currency in the northern region, "the sharp rise in food prices is a blow to the common people," said the researcher.

North Korean Won surged 32 percent to the Chinese Yuan and 15 percent to the U.S. dollar. The survey was done at three locations in North Hamgyong Province and Yanggang Province. Oil price plunged more than 30 percent. It is because that the control on moving for Corona's quarantine has been strengthened since late July and demand has decreased due to the economic recession. But isn’t it because of stable supply from China and Russia?

The survey was done at two locations in North Hamgyong Province and Yanggang Province. Rice and flour supported by China and Russia began to be sold at the Food Sales Office of Local Government since July. It was set at a slightly cheaper price than the market price. However, the surveyor said, "As ordinary people are getting less cash in their hands, the number of people who buy rice has decreased significantly." The market price of flour is 2,100 won.

The research site was Hyesan city in Yanggang Province. This time, the exchange rates for North Korean Won-to-US Dollar and Chinese Yuan rose about 5 percent, and the prices in NKW all fell. Corn prices jumped more than 20 percent last week, but the rise was temporary as they fell in different places two days later.

The research was performed at two locations, North Hamgyong Province and Yanggang Province. Information from Pyongyang was added as well. Massive control over the use of Chinese Yuan and U.S. dollars and market intervention began in late April. The U.S. dollar fell by 14 percent from a month ago. Food prices for the won also fell. Anxiety of the Corona panic is spreading.

The survey was performed in Yanggang Province. Gasoline price also fell due to the weakend market rate of the US Dollars and Chinese Yuan. The price of rice fell because of the authorities' control, and the cash income for the ordinary people decreased due to the border blockade. There are many people who can't buy rice," the investigator says.

Yanggang Province was the location for the survey. Apart from the severe fluctuations in the U.S. Dollar and Chinese Yuan, the North Korean won is going down little by little. Merchants are buying foreign currency due to the prolonged anxiety of the Corona disaster, the surveyor said. The border blockade has reduced the inventory of Chinese rice but that of the domestic rice increased.

The research was made at two locations in North Hamgyong Province and Yanggang Province. Amid the chaos of the Corona disaster, the price of rice has been stable due to the authorities' strong price intervention. Fuel prices continue to rise. Compared to before the border blockade, gasoline and diesel rose by 30 percent. It would be better to see the price trend on a North Korean won basis as the international exchange rate for US Dollar, Yuan and Yen fluctuates unexpectedly.

Due to the blocking of the Chinese border to prevent new types of pneumonia, insufficient supply of Chinese goods is pushing up prices. The price of cooking oil has nearly tripled. Gasoline prices are also rising. The price of rice which includes products from North Korea fell about 15 percent due to the authorities' forced price cuts. Concerns about rising prices have been spreading in North Korea.

Likely due to the rising value of the U.S. dollar, the value of Chinese yuan surged by 8% and the price of domestically-produced rice also shot up. However, the price of rice, as displayed in markets, has remained unchanged at 4.3 won. Meanwhile, the market price for U.S. dollars rose by 10% to 9,463 won/dollar. Going forward, attention must be paid to the trend of the North Korean won.

I surveyed two areas in North Hamgyong Province. Despite the stable exchange rate for Chinese yuan, the price of rice has been rising by about 10% since June. Gasoline, on the other hand, fell by about 20% from mid-May. The reasons for these changes are yet unknown but I intend to get to the bottom of it.

The survey location was a city in North Hamgyong Province. The price index remains stable in June. It says that the prices of the Chinese goods show stability due to active smuggling. But there are some complaints that the quality of everyday life has not improved notably. The power supply which was recovered momentarily deteriorated again.

The surveys were carried out in two locations, in Yanggang and North Hamgyong Provinces. The North Korean domestic brand, “Baekma Gasoline,” is available at the market. The price of KPW 9,310/kg is cheaper than that of the imported gasoline. The quality of the gasoline, refined from crude oil, is so low that it can’t be used for in a car. Other prices also indicated a slight rise.

The surveys were carried out in two locations, in Yanggang and North Hamgyong Provinces. Consumer prices and the exchange rate for RMB showed stability. It is said that people are disappointed because the high-ranking South-North Korean meeting was cancelled. The meeting was scheduled on May 16. Evidence suggests that the expectations for a dialogue between the South and the North is growing.

The surveys were carried out in three locations in Yanggang and North Hamgyong Provinces. Notably, gasoline and diesel dropped sharply. They have decreased by 35% since early April and by 65% since late February when prices peaked. As of last April, the price of gasoline was KPW8,400/kg. This was just prior to a sharp rise in fuel prices.

The reasons are not known, but there is a rumor that fuel was brought in from Chongjin City. There is also a possibility of importation from Russia.

According to the statistics of the Chinese Customs Office as of March 23, the export to China from North Korea has been dropped by 95% since the same month of the previous year. The exchange rate has been stable even though the shortage of foreign currency has continued due to the ongoing economic sanction. The prices for fuel and staple food remain unchanged. We selected two locations in Yanggang Province for survey. Gasoline and diesel have risen sharply since the beginning of the year and continue to fetch a high price. The price hike that has occurred under the international economic sanctions is due to state control on the supply of these products and the rising cost of gasoline. In addition, fuel traders might have begun cornering the market on these products. The market rate of RMB shows that the North Korean currency is slightly stronger.

The survey areas consist of two locations in Yanggang Province and a city. There is no difference among the locations in terms of price differences. The cost of gasoline and diesel has risen markedly by 23% and 34%, respectively. Our ASIAPRESS reporter explained, “There is a rumor that fuel prices are set to rise further.” The actual exchange rate with Chinese RMB is KPW 1,300 and had been stable, but now shows more than a 5% drop of with the North Korean Won. It is not certain whether the economic sanctions are the cause of the changes in the strength of the North Korean currency.
