◆ Even if treated as heroes, no parent would rejoice at their child's death

Reporting Partner A expressed a cold view regarding honoring war dead as heroes.

"There don't seem to be any households here (in the residential area) that had children deployed to Russia. Still, all parents who sent sons and daughters to the military are equally worried.

Even if they receive hero titles, where would there be people who would rejoice at their child's death? Moreover, even if they receive hero treatment from the state, it's not like they receive money or rations. Even if they did receive something, it couldn't be exchanged for their child.

They say the bereaved families of war dead this time will be given priority service rights to amusement parks and tourism hotels in the Kalma district (opened in Wonsan), and free train tickets. And they say the government will give consolation goods every holiday."

◆ Already begun creation of 'modern hero mythology'

Another Reporting Partner B living in North Hamgyong Province reported that there was a lecture meeting for youth the week before the state commendation ceremony was held. Reporting Partner B is a Workers' Party member.

"A cadre of the local Youth League organization showed lecture materials titled 'Youth Educational Materials.' It was dated August 11. It said that youth should perform the role of shock troops in all fields, that soldiers who participated in the special military operation are heroes of our era and faithful sons and daughters of the republic, and that young people should take the lead and emulate their heroic spirit of sacrifice."

According to Reporting Partner B, the materials included Kim Jong-un's 'words' stating, "Socialism is the life and livelihood of our people. Youth are the protagonists and builders of socialism's future."

Furthermore, the aforementioned Reporting Partner A said, "I heard the local Youth League is implementing collective enlistment and petition ceremonies to become bullet and bomb suicide squads."

It seems clear that, triggered by the Russia deployment, the Kim Jong-un regime has embarked on creating a 'modern hero mythology.'
